When and if you have time, check out Rock Creek, Convict Lake and June Lake. Don’t know if you can reach these sites that are some 30-50 miles north of Bishop as they’re up in the altitudes and may be snow-covered deep. They’re beautiful places for photos. Enjoyed your photos of your trip!
ann_c – definitely plan to check out those places. also plan on photographing Mono Lake, and Bodie State Park! Death Valley N.P. is to the south as well. Lots of places within striking distance!
jon: the snow/ice melted within a few hours. it gets to the high 40s during the day. :)
Ever played Lara Croft Tomb Raider? Photo #2 looks like a scene straight out of the Kazakhstan portion of the game – snow, chain link fences, tall light fixtures, wood-paneled bunkers, snowy mountains in the background. Except that part of the game is all night.

Woot! Cold! Sure am glad you weren’t spending the night outside in a pup tent. ;-)

I guess that means bouldering is out until the ice/snow melts?

Here’s a screenshot – wrong angle, but only one I could find of that part of the game. http://news.softpedia.com/images/reviews/large/tomb_raider_045-large.jpg
